Eligibility Criteria of Assam TET


To be eligible for the Assam Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET), a candidate must fulfill certain criteria. Firstly, the candidate must be a permanent resident of the 6th Schedule area districts, which include Baksa, Chirang, Dima-Hasao, Kokrajhar, Karbi-Anglong, West Karbi-Anglong, and Udalguri. This means that only those candidates who have been residing in these areas for a considerable amount of time are eligible to apply for the exam.

    In addition to the residency criteria, the Assam TET exam also has certain educational qualification requirements. For Lower Primary and Upper Primary levels, the educational qualifications required are as follows: the candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). Alternatively, the candidate must have a Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed. degree. These educational qualifications ensure that the candidates who apply for the exam have the necessary knowledge and skills to become successful teachers. 

Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)


a) Qualifications required for appointment as a teacher in class I to V are:
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution, along with a mandatory 6-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education within 2 years of appointment.
b) Candidates pursuing teacher education courses recognized by NCTE or RCI may also apply for TET, but must acquire all required qualifications before applying for appointment. Candidates admitted into 2-year D.El.Ed program before 31st August 2009 may refer to Clause B under the subheading Relaxation. 

Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)


a) Qualification requirements for TET:
  • Graduation with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR
  • At least 50% marks in Graduation or Post Graduation and B. Ed OR
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. El. Ed) OR
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks and 4-year B.A./ B. Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed/B. Sc. Ed OR
  • Graduation with 50% marks and 1-year B. Ed. (Special Education)
  • Note: Minimum percentage of marks in graduation is not applicable for those who took admission prior to July 29, 2011.
b) Eligibility for TET:

  • A person pursuing a teacher education course recognized by NCTE/RCI and having Admit Card for the final year examination specified in the NCTE Guideline dated 11th February, 2011, may apply for TET.
  • However, appointment can only be applied for after acquiring all required qualifications. 
  1. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD(PH) can get a relaxation of up to 5% in academic marks to appear in TET for Paper-I (LP Level) and Paper-II (UP Level).
  2. The degree of handicap for PH candidates should be minimum 40% and certified by a competent authority.
  3. Candidates who were admitted in 2-Year D.El.Ed before 31/08/2009 can apply for Paper-I (LP Level) with relaxation up to 5% in HSSLC marks as per NCTE Notification No. F.51-1/2009-NCTE (N&S) dated 31st August 2009 and qualified 2-Year D.El.Ed subsequently.
  4. Candidates who were admitted in 1-Year B.Ed. before 31/08/2009 can apply for Paper-II (UP Level) with relaxation up to 5% in Graduation marks as per NCTE Notification No. F.51-1/2009-NCTE (N&S) dated 31st August 2009 and qualified 1-Year B.Ed. subsequently.
